Medicine Hat

Located in Southeast Alberta, Medicine Hat is approximately 300 kilometres (186 miles) southeast of Calgary, and 160 kilometres (99 miles) north of the United States border. Most surface transportation heading across the country pass through Medicine Hat on the Trans-Canada Highway #1 and Highway #3. Situated on the CPR mainline, Medicine Hat is located at 50 N latitude, and 110 42 W longitude. The city’s area is 120 square kilometers (45 square miles), and its elevation is 721 meters (2,365 feet).

Medicine Hat's climate is semi-arid with dry, hot summers and mild winters. Warm Chinook winds blow during the winter months to provide pleasant weather conditions. According to Environment Canada, Medicine Hat receives 2,512 hours of sunshine per year, making us the sunniest spot in Canada! The average temperature for July is 23 degrees Celsius (73.4 degrees F), January temperatures average -12 degrees C (9.3 degrees F). Mean rainfall is only 230 mm (8.7 inches) per year.
